Noxen Township, Pa. — October 10 — With several fire prevention events, continuous rescue training, and numerous emergency calls throughout the week, the Noxen Volunteer Fire Company (Station 101) has had a busy stretch.

Station 101 was called to the scene of a reported fuel truck rollover near Wilson Road and Cider Run Road at 6:15 a.m. on Friday.

The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Tunkhannock and Station 101 units searched the area but were unable to locate any cars in Noxen Township, Wyoming County. The vehicle was later found in Luzerne County, where PSP Tunkhannock asked Station 101 to stay on standby while troopers proceeded along the former railroad grade. After that, Station 101 left the area.

At 7:50 a.m., Station 101 was dispatched again—this time to assist Luzerne County with an overturned fuel tanker leaking on Mountain Road (Old Railroad Bed) in Ross Township.

Crews from Noxen arrived and worked with PSP Tunkhannock to assess and contain small leaks from both the tractor engine and a cargo tank hatch. Absorbent pads were used to mitigate the spills while Luzerne County Emergency Management Agency and Bressler Towing and Recovery’s Hazmat Team handled containment and cleanup. Before first responders arrived, the driver had self-extricated and was unharmed. During a demanding week of emergency response and training activities, Noxen crews demonstrated their continued readiness and cooperation with neighboring agencies by requiring approximately five hours of operational time for the two incidents combined.
