On Thursday afternoon, October 16, units from the Township of Spring Fire Rescue (TSFR), along with mutual aid partners from Wyomissing Fire Department (Ladder 79) and Western Berks Fire Department (Engine 18-2), were dispatched to a reported hazardous materials situation at a medical office building on Keiser Boulevard in Spring Township.

Upon receiving the call, Communications advised responding crews of a reported odor of natural gas within the structure and that building occupants were in the process of evacuating.

Engine 85 arrived on scene to find a single-story healthcare facility with all occupants safely outside. Crews met with the individual who reported the incident, who described a strong odor of rotten eggs and confirmed that UGI had already been notified. Personnel from Engine 85 and Ladder 79 used three different gas meters to check the building but found no abnormal readings.

Shortly after, maintenance staff and UGI representatives arrived to further investigate. Incident information was relayed to them, and the scene was officially turned over to their control. All fire units were then released from the assignment, with no further services required.
