October 17, 2025 - In the morning, as members of the department prepared for a fire prevention presentation at Penns Manor Elementary School, firefighter Nate Gill noticed a cat stranded high in a tree near the station. The frightened feline was unable to climb down, despite several attempts by firefighter Tony Shultz to coax — and even bribe — it to safety.

Safety Officer Paul Demi soon arrived with a step ladder and successfully reached the distressed cat, who appeared quite grateful for the rescue. The firefighters brought the cat inside the station, providing food, water, and a litter box before heading off to their presentation.

While they were away, the crew learned where the cat lived, and upon returning, they safely escorted the adventurous pet back home.

Indeed, sometimes firefighters really do rescue cats from trees!
