A second-alarm residential fire brought 26 firefighters and several mutual-aid agencies to a two-story home, where crews conducted defensive operations and prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring properties.

At approximately 10:31 p.m. on October 7, 2026, the South Burlington Fire Department was dispatched to 63 Butler Drive in South Burlington, Vermont, after an occupant reported a porch fire. South Burlington police arrived first and reported heavy fire conditions. With several fire and EMS units already committed to other emergencies, additional resources were requested. Engine 2 arrived approximately 11 minutes after dispatch and found heavy fire involving multiple sides of the structure.

Firefighters initiated defensive suppression operations, bringing the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes. Mutual-aid assistance was provided by the Vermont Air National Guard, Burlington and Williston fire departments, along with UVM Rescue. Saint Michael's Fire Department and off-duty South Burlington personnel helped maintain emergency coverage while crews operated at the fire. Firefighters conducted extensive overhaul, and an engine remained on scene overnight to monitor conditions and assist with the investigation.

All occupants escaped safely, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters prevented extension to nearby buildings. The South Burlington Fire Marshal's Office was investigating the cause of the fire, and the extent of the damage had not been determined in the initial report.
