Taxi Sends Fire Hydrant Sailing Then Hits Pole

Mastic, NY- at about 9:10 PM Saturday October 10th 2020 the Mastic Fire Department was called to a report of a vehicle crashed into a pole on Mastic Rd Near Meadowmere Ave. Chief Rudy Sunderman was in charge and upon his arrival Chief Sunderman he found that the vehicle was up against the pole and a nearby fire hydrant was missing. The chief advised no one was trapped and no wires were down.
Engine 5-12-2 responded into the scene and secured the vehicle by cutting the battery cable. Mastic EMS checked out the occupants of the vehicle. The Suffolk County Water Authority was notified to respond out to address the broken fire hydrant that went into the woods. All FD and EMS units were back in service in under a half hour.
