South Berwick, M.E. — October 10 — Members of the Westerly Fire Department came to Central School during Fire Prevention Week to teach fire safety and greet community members at the fire station. The safe use, charging, and disposal of lithium-ion batteries is the main focus of this year's theme, "CHARGE into Fire Safety." The department highlighted how improper handling of lithium-ion batteries can, in some cases, transform a commonplace item into a fire hazard because they power numerous everyday gadgets, including phones, laptops, tablets, and power tools.
