Monmouth, ME — September 27 — The Monmouth Fire Department dealt with a second structure fire within a short time after spending much of the early morning responding to a fire on Hallowell Road in Litchfield.
The first fire started around 1:15 a.m. After returning to full service, Monmouth firefighters were called out at 8:17 a.m.to a structure fire on South Monmouth Road. Firefighters from Winthrop, Leeds, Wales, and Greene also joined the response to help.
Several firefighters who answered the second call had already been working on the overnight incident in Litchfield. This made crew availability and fatigue key factors during the morning response.
Firefighters quickly put out the fire at South Monmouth Road. The damage was mainly confined to a second-floor knee-wall storage area and the living room directly beneath it. An electrical issue involving old wiring was believed to be the likely cause.
The Monmouth Police Department helped manage traffic during the response, while the Winthrop Ambulance Service was on standby in case medical assistance or firefighter care was required.
This response showed the importance of mutual aid in helping fire departments handle multiple incidents and keep coverage going when local crews are busy with extended operations. The Monmouth Fire Department serves Monmouth, North Monmouth, and nearby areas with a volunteer team, making cooperation with other agencies a vital part of emergency responses.
