Westerly, R.I. — October 10 — Throughout the week, Westerly Fire Department volunteers visited schools to instruct students in fire safety, walk them through fundamental safety procedures, and respond to their inquiries about fighting fires. Demonstrations, discussions about staying safe, and educating the kids about what firefighters do were all part of the outreach. One standout moment was when "Friendly Firefighter Steve" joined the sessions and added interest to the lessons.
