December 19, 2025— Members of the Watch Hill Fire Department remained busy throughout Friday as strong winds and storm conditions impacted the region. Firefighters responded to two separate electrical emergencies along Ocean View Highway between Yosemite Valley Road and Manatuck Avenue during the height of the wind storm, prompting the closure of the roadway as crews worked to secure hazards and address downed power lines.
Officials advised that the road would remain closed for a period of time and that electrical service in the area could be intermittent while repairs continued. In addition to local responses, Firefighter Mellen, serving as part of the regional Hope Valley–Wyoming Fire District HazMat Team, was dispatched to the Town of West Greenwich to assist the Lake Mishnock Fire/Rescue with a leaking 500-gallon propane tank that had been struck by a fallen tree.
The department expressed appreciation to its volunteers for their dedication and service during the demanding conditions, and also extended thanks to the professionals at Westerly Dispatch for their exceptional work managing dozens of emergency calls across the region simultaneously during the storm.
