Early Morning Basement Fire in Squirrel Hill South Prompts Second Alarm
Pittsburgh, PA - Pittsburgh Fire responded to a residential structure fire on the 2900 block of Beechwood Boulevard in the city’s Squirrel Hill South neighborhood. The initial call was for a one-alarm fire, but at approximately 3:30 a.m., a second alarm was issued.
The blaze originated in the basement of the home, caused by an overheated dehumidifier. An adult female occupant was home at the time but safely evacuated after being alerted by the smoke alarms. No civilian injuries were reported.
Among the firefighters on scene, one was transported to a local hospital in stable condition after suffering heat exhaustion. Another firefighter experienced heat-related symptoms but was treated at the scene and returned to duty.
The fire was brought under control by approximately 3:45 a.m.
