Pittsburgh, PA - The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to a one-alarm structure fire in the 100 block of Conover Road in the Point Breeze neighborhood.

Firefighters rescued a dog from the residence, and medics transported the animal to an emergency veterinary clinic for treatment of smoke inhalation. No residents were home at the time of the incident.

The fire caused significant damage to the kitchen and resulted in heat and smoke damage throughout other parts of the home. The resident made alternative arrangements for shelter.

According to the Fire Investigation Unit, the blaze started when the dog attempted to reach food placed on top of the stove, accidentally turning on a burner and igniting nearby materials.
