Third Alarm in Groton with Multiple Rescues

Around 4:54 pm on Saturday, 10/11/25 the City of Groton Fire Department with Poquonnock Bridge Truck 35 & Engine 32, Electric Boat Engine 12, Sub Base Engine 62 & Truck 65, Mystic Engine 53, Old Mystic Engine 62 and Rescue 67 were dispatched to the Groton Towers, 39 Broad Street Extension for a structure fire with people trapped. Engine 11 arrived with smoke showing from the rear and stretched a line. Engine 32 laid in from a hydrant and established the water supply. Truck 35 positioned on the Charlie side, flew their aerial and threw ground ladders.
The second alarm was transmitted at 5:03 which added Mystic Truck 55, New London Truck 2 and A200 as well as the Providence Canteen. Companies stretched multiple lines to the third and fourth floor, knocking the bulk of the fire within 30 minutes..
The third alarm was struck at 5:36 which brought in Ledyard Engine 11, Gales Ferry Truck 25 and Mohegan Tribal FAST. Companies worked extremely hard at this fire and removed 5 people from the building. Ambulances responded from Groton, Mystic River, Waterford and North Stonington with paramedics from Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. The Noank and Waterford Fire Departments provided station coverage. The Groton Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating with assistance from the Connecticut Fire & Explosion Investigative Unit.
