Woburn, MA - On the evening of October 2, 2025, at approximately 8:45 PM, Woburn Fire Department crews responded to reports of a vehicle that had struck a pole and caught fire at the Route 38 rotary. Engine 2, returning from a prior medical call, arrived on scene within moments.
Firefighters discovered a single vehicle that had collided with a utility pole, with the driver trapped inside. Flames were visible from the engine compartment and had spread across the surrounding debris field. Engine 2’s four-person crew quickly initiated a dual operation—extinguishing the fire while simultaneously using the Jaws of Life to extricate the trapped driver.
Rescue 1, Engine 4, and Car 3 were added to the response. The patient was transported to a trauma center with serious injuries. Woburn Police remained on scene to conduct an investigation.
Group 2 was on duty.
