The Westfield Fire Department expressed its appreciation to Dana Giaccio and Michael Ciccarelli of Grove Contracting for their participation in the department’s Acquired Structure Program, which provides firefighters with valuable, hands-on training opportunities.

The Acquired Structure Program partners with local contractors and property owners to use buildings scheduled for demolition as training sites. These structures allow firefighters to conduct realistic drills—such as search and rescue, ventilation, and survival exercises—under safe, supervised conditions. “These buildings provide one final community service at the end of their useful lives,” the department said in a statement.

Officials emphasized that such training is only possible through the generosity and cooperation of community members. The department is actively seeking additional buildings for future training use.

For more information or to participate in the program, residents and contractors can contact the Westfield Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau at fireprevention@westfieldnj.gov.
