Falmouth, Mass. — On the evening of September 14, firefighters were called to a working structure fire in the 700 block of Sandwich Road after a neighbor saw flames visible on the outside of a one-story ranch-style house with a walkout basement. After arriving from Hatchville Station 6, Engine 20 verified that there was an active exterior fire and launched an assault. In order to accommodate other calls in the town, command upgraded the incident to a working fire assignment, sending more crews to the scene and mutual-aid organizations.
The first outside fire was extinguished in a flash. After that, firefighters worked extensively in the attic, where the fire had spread, and performed primary and secondary searches of the house. To guarantee total extinguishment, crews stayed on the scene until approximately 8:40 p.m.
