Fairfield, Vt. — October 6 — The Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department responded late on Monday evening to a reported barn fire on a local farm.
Crews arrived to find smoke rising from the structure. Firefighters worked to cool hot spots and remove burning hay to keep the fire from spreading deeper into the barn. Tanker trucks were deployed to bring water to the rural site, allowing crews to advance lines and knock down the smoldering material inside.
The fire was brought under control without any reported injuries. Firefighters stayed on scene to conduct overhaul, carefully pulling apart hay and bedding to ensure there were no hidden embers that could reignite.
Department officials noted that incidents in rural areas often present additional challenges, including limited water supply and access to farm structures. They credited the coordinated work of volunteer firefighters for preventing the fire from spreading and for protecting nearby buildings and livestock.
