5 Oct. 2025 — The Irvington Volunteer Fire Department proudly celebrated its 145th Inspection and Anniversary last night, marking more than a century of service and dedication to the village.

In preparation for the event, firefighters and volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the week to ensure that the firehouse, apparatus, gear, and equipment reflected the pride and professionalism of the department. Their commitment was on full display during the celebration, which brought together community members, local leaders, and partner fire departments.

Adding to the significance of the evening, the department received multiple proclamations in honor of its 145th anniversary, recognizing its long history of protecting and serving the Irvington community.

The night also included a special tribute to Ex-Chief Michael Colantuono, who was honored for his 50 years of service to the department and the village. A two-time Chief, Colantuono received numerous awards for his exceptional dedication, leadership, and impact on the fire service.

“We are incredibly proud of our history, our members, and our enduring bond with this community,” the department said in a statement. “Celebrations like this remind us of the tradition of service we carry forward.”

The event was attended by local officials and representatives, including Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Assemblymember MaryJane Shimsky, and County Legislator David Imamura, along with colleagues from neighboring fire departments and state fire service organizations.
