Jamestown, R.I. — October 4 — At 12:29 p.m., the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department was called to a report of a hiker who was stuck on some rocks close to 609 Beavertail Road. Officers from the Jamestown Police Department had already spoken to the patient when they arrived. She couldn't find her way back to the trail, but she wasn't hurt. To get to her, fire crews using ATV-1s and hand tools started slicing a new route through the brush. At the same time, the command asked Marine 1 and Drone Unit D-1 for assistance in scouting for a potential backup escape route. Rescuers cleared a path to the patient after about half an hour of concerted effort, and the patient was eventually taken out safely and without incident.
Officials highlighted that in remote, wooded, and shoreline areas, tools such as drones, ATVs, and marine units are essential to reduce response times and ensure safe victim extrication. The JFD run card for the operation included C5, R1, C4, E5, SS1/ATV-1, M1, and E3.
