Pittsburgh, PA. — September 28 — Bauerstown Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) crews responded to a residential fire that was reported on Monday morning in the 200 block of Siegel Street. The call came in after a caller reported an oven fire.
At around 6:40 a.m., the 191 box assignment was sent to the scene for the incident. Engine 191 saw a heavy column of smoke while traveling from the station. Upon arrival, the crew confirmed there was an active fire, with flames visible from the front door.
The 191 chief took command of the operation as firefighters started working at the fire scene. Engine 259 arrived and connected to a secondary hydrant to provide a water supply. Crews from Companies 259 and 260 extended about 400 feet of hose to the back of the building to gain access and begin firefighting efforts.
As the situation inside the building became more severe, command ordered the evacuation of the structure. Firefighters from several first-alarm companies regrouped and later returned to the building to continue firefighting and extinguishing efforts.
The fire was eventually brought under control, and crews started a thorough overhaul process to find any remaining hot spots and check for any signs of fire spread. First-alarm companies stayed on the scene while overhaul and other post-fire activities were completed.
