Passerby Spots Attic Fire at Former College Road Pizza Hut Restaurant

(OCALA, FL.) Oct. 3, 2022 – On Sunday, Oct. 2, at approximately 10:31 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue's Engines 1, 4, 6, and 7, Rescue 4, Tower 1, Battalion Chief 11 and 22, and a Safety Officer responded to a passerby's report of a commercial structure fire at 3394 SW College Rd. - a former Pizza Hut restaurant location.

As units approached the scene, they could see smoke escaping through the eaves and vents of the roof.

Engine 4 forced entry on the West side doors, along with Engine 6. Crews encountered heavy dark smoke and intense heat while searching for the fire.

Rescue 4 searched the building while Engine 1 and Engine 7 advanced an interior hose line from the South side, locating the seat of the fire in the attic.

Tower 1 performed ventilation to improve visibility for the crews inside.

The fire was under control by 11:10 p.m.

The building, which is under renovation, was vacant at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Ocala Police Department, Ocala Electric Utilities, and Marion County Fire Rescue also responded.
