Fire companies responding to a working structure fire requested additional personnel and apparatus as crews carried out suppression and ventilation operations at a borough property.

The incident was reported Saturday, September 19, 2026, shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the unit block of Kings Boulevard in Shillington, Pennsylvania. Shillington Fire Company was the primary-due department, with additional resources requested through a second-alarm assignment.

Western Berks Fire Department responded with Ladder 18 as part of the mutual-aid response. Upon arrival, the ladder crew was assigned to roof operations, where firefighters opened ventilation holes to support interior suppression efforts.

The ventilation work was coordinated with fireground operations to provide an outlet for heat and smoke from the structure. Firefighters from the responding companies continued suppression and other assigned tasks as crews worked to bring the incident under control.

Ladder 18 operated at the scene for approximately one hour before being released by incident command and returning to service. The response involved coordination between the primary-due company and neighboring departments providing additional truck company resources.
