LIBERTY, Maine, Oct. 2, 2025 — During its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Liberty Fire & Rescue discussed its ongoing fundraising efforts, with a major new project now underway: replacing the department’s roadside information sign.

For years, the sign has been used to share updates and announcements with the community. However, it has become aged and worn, prompting the department to seek a state-of-the-art electronic replacement.

An initial quote placed the cost at $28,000 — $18,000 for the electronic sign, $8,000 for the header, and $2,000 for installation. Liberty Fire & Rescue plans to present the project at the next town meeting, proposing that the Town of Liberty contribute half of the costs, while the department raises the other half through fundraising.

Community members can support the project by donating returnables at the station or 10-4 Redemption, or by sending direct donations. Checks may be mailed to:

PO Box 116

Liberty, ME 04949

Please note “town sign” in the memo line.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to all contributors and welcome any comments regarding this initiative,” the department said.
