Harrison, ME - Harrison Fire/Rescue, with mutual aid from Casco Fire/Rescue (Engine 63, Tank 66, and four firefighters), Naples Fire/Rescue (Ladder 9, Tank 1, Chiefs 901 & 902, and seven firefighters), and United Ambulance, responded to a reported structure fire at 510 Lewis Road.
Upon arrival, crews found a small shed fully involved, with flames spreading into the woods. The fire was quickly brought under control, and no injuries were reported. Heat from the blaze damaged the siding of the residence, while the shed and all of its contents were deemed a total loss.
Bridgton Fire/Rescue provided station coverage during the incident, and the Forest Service responded, estimating that approximately 2/10 of an acre had burned.
Due to the time of day, Harrison Fire/Rescue was only able to respond with Chief 801 and Engine 82, staffed by a total of four members. This marked the department’s sixth call of the day, including four medical calls, one fire alarm, and the structure/woods fire.
The department expressed appreciation for the support of its mutual aid partners but noted that the incident once again highlights the ongoing challenges with daytime staffing and manpower shortages.
