Tremont, ME - Tremont Fire Department volunteers were well represented during a joint training session held across the town line with the Ambulance Service and the Southwest Harbor Fire Department.
When a serious medical call occurs within predetermined boundaries of either community, personnel from one or both fire departments may be requested to respond and provide support.
For Tremont volunteers, support roles can range from retrieving additional gear or the stretcher from the ambulance, to taking over as driver so a medic can assist in the back, to helping lift or move patients. In other cases, volunteers may provide scene safety or traffic management, assist with carry-outs, perform or initiate CPR/AED procedures, or help control bleeding.
Ongoing hands-on training and annual certifications ensure that Tremont firefighters are prepared to work effectively under the guidance of medical professionals during these critical situations.
