Pownal, Vt. — September 15 — On Monday, the Pownal Fire Department conducted a drill along the Hoosick River, clearing access points and practicing drafting operations to improve water-supply readiness in rural areas without hydrants.
Officials said the session helped firefighters maintain essential skills for pump setup and water movement during emergencies. Keeping river access clear and practicing draft techniques ensures reliable fireground operations when natural water sources are needed.
