Quick Fire Response Prevents Major Damage in Attleboro Home
Attleboro, MA - At approximately 1:49 p.m. on 14th September, Attleboro firefighters were dispatched to 57 East Street for a report of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, crews observed smoke coming from the first-floor residence. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack, successfully containing the fire to the first-floor living room, though smoke damage was reported throughout the building.
A male resident of the apartment suffered burns to his head and face, along with smoke inhalation. He was transported by advanced life support ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. A female Good Samaritan who helped the resident evacuate the home was also injured and transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.
The American Red Cross responded to provide temporary housing assistance to the residents. Fire crews remained on scene until approximately 3:20 p.m.
District Chief Mark Renker praised the response, stating, “The quick actions of our firefighters prevented this fire from spreading beyond the living room and causing more extensive damage. We also want to recognize the efforts of a neighbor who tried to help and wish both individuals a full recovery.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Fire Departments of Seekonk, Norton, and North Attleboro provided station coverage during the incident.
