Mashpee, MA - On September 18, 2025, the department proudly placed its first dedicated saltwater response vessel into service. This milestone reflects the strong working relationship established with the Mashpee Harbormaster, Bosun's Marine, and the town’s administration.

Marine 1 is now ready to serve Popponnesset Bay, Mashpee’s south-facing beaches, Waquoit Bay, and parts of Nantucket Sound. The landing craft-style vessel is specifically designed for water rescues and emergencies on remote beaches that have posed unique rescue challenges in the past. Equipped with a portable pump for fire suppression, Marine 1 significantly enhances the department’s capabilities on the water.

The vessel is viewed as an invaluable asset to the community and a significant commitment to protecting one of its most precious resources—its waterways.

As the seasons shift into fall and winter, personnel will continue training alongside the Harbormaster, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Department of Environmental Protection to ensure constant readiness for any situation.

Here’s to safer waters and stronger partnerships.
