Brigantine, N.J. — September 25 — This week, the Brigantine Fire & EMS Department completed Marine Rescue Vehicle (MRV) training in 3- to 4-foot surf from Hurricane Gabrielle. Led by Bobby Bechtel of Downbeach Native, the session gave responders hands-on experience in realistic conditions.
Crews practiced single- and dual-rescuer operations for conscious, unconscious, and multiple victims, along with handling rescue jetskis in heavy surf and strong rip currents.
With lifeguard season over and fall storms approaching, water rescues now fall to fire and EMS personnel. Training in challenging surf ensures they stay prepared and ready to respond.
