Audubon, N.J. — September 6 —Task Force 15-2 was sent to Sgt. Scrap on Route 130 in response to reports of a building fire. Upon arrival, Battalion 5 and Gloucester City Squad reported that there was fire visible through the roof and triggered an all-hands alarm. Engine 19 and Utility 19 of the Audubon Park Fire Company joined the response, providing personnel and running a 2.5-inch hose line from outside.
Crews switched to defensive operations because portions of the building had already partially collapsed and suffered significant damage. In order to mobilize resources from nearby departments, the incident was raised to a 2-alarm status. After spending about six hours on the scene, Engine 19 went back to its quarters.
The fire occurred at Sgt. Scrap Metal Recycling Shop, a commercial facility located in the 600 block of Crescent Boulevard (Route 130). The blaze prompted the closure of Route 130 in both directions for several hours in the early morning. No injuries have been reported.
