GALLITZIN, Pa. (Monday, Sept. 8) — Gallitzin Fire Company spent the past weekend balancing fire safety education with community outreach and standby coverage.
On Friday, members visited three local daycares to teach preschoolers about smoke detectors and emergency preparedness. The next day, the company hosted its monthly sub sales and an open house, offering demonstrations on emergency procedures, fire extinguisher use and smoke detector maintenance. Despite poor weather, the event also featured a simulated house fire demonstration.
Saturday evening, Rescue Engine 71 provided standby coverage in Lakemont and at the Altoona Curve baseball game during fireworks. The weekend concluded Sunday with another daycare visit focused on fire prevention.
The company thanked Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company for providing a smoke trailer, Ashville Fire Company for assisting with the simulated fire, Penn Cambria cheerleaders for supporting the open house, and Lilly Mountain Alpacas for educating attendees about their animals.
