05 September 2025 - Engine No. 43, a 2004 E-One originally acquired as a stock truck, has served the Borough with distinction for nearly two decades. Throughout her years of service, she responded to countless fires and participated in numerous statewide deployments as part of various county task forces. Most notably, Engine 43 remained in constant operation during both Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy, enduring some of the harshest conditions a fire apparatus can face.
In 2023, the Borough invested in a refurbishment of the Engine, extending her service life for several more years. This proved invaluable during the past summer, when the Squad Company was sidelined for major motor repairs. Engine 43 returned to frontline duty, carrying the department through the entire season and logging just under 300 runs.
Thanks to the strong support of the Mayor and Council, plans are now in place for Engine 43’s well-earned retirement. The Borough has secured a 2027 E-One Typhoon Engine through the Metro Series Apparatus Program in partnership with Absolute. With the anticipated arrival of Ladder 43 in the coming weeks, the department is preparing to welcome what can only be described as a pair of “Irish Twins.”
