Upper Deerfield, N.J. — August 5 — Upper Deerfield Fire Department’s Station 33 was active throughout the day, with training and certification efforts aimed at keeping units sharp and ready.
In the morning, the department’s K-9 teams underwent their biannual recertification. This process tests the teamwork, obedience, scent detection, and control of the handlers and dogs under controlled conditions. Many canine programs in fire and law enforcement require such periodic recertification to ensure that K-9 teams maintain operational standards. (Arson K-9 programs, for instance, often mandate multiday recertification annually.)
That evening, crews from Station 33 conducted a joint training session on nurse tank operations alongside Hopewell–Stow Creek Fire Department and Gouldtown Fire Company. In rural or low-hydrant areas, nurse tank operations help maintain water supply by staging water support from tankers to engines on scene.
