The Boonton Township Fire Department gathered today to honor the life and service of past member Edward Z. Hawkes II.

Ed joined the department in 1959 and remained a dedicated member for more than 35 years, during which time he served as the Department’s Treasurer. Among his most significant accomplishments was helping secure the property for the Township’s Satellite Firehouse at 325 Rockaway Valley Road, located at the end of the old Aircraft Radio Airstrip. This achievement was a source of great pride for him.

As Treasurer, Ed was meticulous and dependable, ensuring that fund drive letters were sent out on time and that the department’s finances were managed responsibly so operations could continue smoothly throughout the year.

Remembered as a respectful, kind, and caring man, Ed exemplified dedication not only as a firefighter but also as a public servant through his service in the armed forces.

The Boonton Township Fire Department extends its gratitude for Ed’s many years of service and his lasting impact on the department.
