September 8, 2025 — On Monday evening, members of the Tri-Village Volunteer Fire Company trained with the Albany County Fire Training Trailer, focusing on Firefighter Assist and Search Team (F.A.S.T.) operations.
The exercise allowed crews to practice locating and removing downed firefighters in simulated structure fire conditions. Tri-Village maintains a dedicated F.A.S.T. team capable of responding to incidents across the region to assist in rescuing trapped or lost firefighters.
F.A.S.T. teams, sometimes referred to as Rapid Intervention Teams (RIT), are specialized groups of firefighters assigned to stand by at fire scenes. Their sole mission is to rescue fellow firefighters if conditions deteriorate or a firefighter becomes lost, trapped, or incapacitated inside a structure.
Hands-on training like this ensures firefighters remain prepared to act quickly and effectively when every second counts, protecting both the public and their fellow first responders.
