Selkirk Firefighters Battle Mobile Home Blaze
September 20, 2025 — At 9:17 p.m. on Saturday, the Selkirk Fire Department was dispatched to Skyridge Lane for a reported outdoor fire. Upon arrival, 1st Assistant Chief Daniel Wagoner discovered that the incident involved an active fire in a mobile home.
Mutual aid was quickly requested, bringing Elsmere, Delmar, and Slingerlands fire departments to the scene, while Coeymans Hollow Volunteer Fire Corps covered Selkirk’s South Bethlehem firehouse. The sole occupant of the home had escaped safely before firefighters arrived and was uninjured.
Crews encountered challenges when the fire spread into the space between the ceiling and roof, requiring extensive overhaul to fully extinguish. Broken hydrants at the scene further complicated suppression efforts. The blaze was placed under control in approximately 40 minutes.
Two firefighters were evaluated by Delmar-Bethlehem EMS and Albany County Sheriff’s Office EMS Division for minor issues but quickly returned to duty. The Bethlehem Police Department’s Fire Investigation Team is handling the investigation, and early findings indicate the fire is not suspicious. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced homeowner.
