BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, Pa. (Wednesday, Sept. 10) — A dump truck carrying blasting materials overturned on Swamp Road early Wednesday, spilling ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel and prompting a temporary shelter-in-place order, officials said.

Fire crews were dispatched around 6:10 a.m. to the 1400 block of Swamp Road. Initial reports indicated the driver was trapped, but the person had exited the vehicle before firefighters arrived. The truck had been hauling thousands of pounds of ammonium nitrate for quarry blasting.

Lingohocken Fire Chief 35 established command and, working with Bucks County Special Operations, Bucks County 911 and the Buckingham Township fire marshal, ordered a half-mile radius shelter-in-place alert as a precaution.

Technicians from the blasting company offloaded the materials while firefighters stood by at a safe distance. Crews later secured the diesel fuel leak, uprighted the truck and confirmed no additional hazards. A representative from the state Department of Environmental Protection also responded.

Swamp Road between Creamery and Mozart roads remained closed for cleanup and utility work. Officials said the area was safe for residents to return.
