Five-Car Chain-Reaction Crash Jams Westbound I-376 During Morning Commute

Green Tree, PA - Three motorists were hospitalized Monday morning following a five-vehicle chain-reaction collision that blocked the passing lane of Interstate 376 Westbound during the tail end of the morning rush hour.

Shortly before 9:00 a.m. on September 7, Green Tree Volunteer Fire Company’s 163 Rescue was dispatched to the highway corridor following reports of a multi-car pileup. Arriving emergency crews located five passenger vehicles tangled in a successive rear-end collision, obstructing traffic flow in the left-hand passing lane of the westbound interstate.

Firefighters immediately established a safety perimeter to divert oncoming highway traffic around the wreckage, mitigated fluid leaks, and swept extensive impact debris from the travel lanes.

Emergency medical services personnel assessed a total of five patients at the scene. Following on-site triage and stabilization, three individuals were transported by ambulance to nearby medical facilities for treatment of injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Firefighters and highway units remained on scene until the damaged vehicles were hooked by wreckers and the passing lane was reopened to traffic.
