LEESPORT, Pa. (Thursday, Sept. 4) — Union Fire Company #1 of Leesport answered two calls Thursday evening, first for an odor investigation at the Northern Berks Regional Police station and later for a three-vehicle crash on Centre Avenue.
The first call came around 6:20 p.m., when Engine 37 and Ladder 12 crews reported a strong odor near the entrance of the police station but were unable to find a source. Firefighters determined nearby construction may have caused the smell to enter the building’s HVAC system. With no fire confirmed, crews cleared the scene.
As firefighters were leaving, they were dispatched to the 200 block of Centre Avenue for a motor vehicle accident. Engine 37 arrived to find three vehicles involved, one blocking northbound lanes. Fire police from stations 37 and 66 directed traffic as EMS crews treated and transported patients. Firefighters remained on scene about 30 minutes before being released.
