Atkinson Crews Respond to Overturned Dump Truck

Firefighters responded to Industrial Way in Atkinson, New Hampshire, shortly after noon on September 22, 2026, for a report of an overturned dump truck. The incident occurred while a tractor-trailer unit was unloading a load of gravel and partially overturned during the operation. 

Atkinson Fire Department was the first responding fire agency. With three firefighters/ EMTs available for daytime staffing, the department immediately responded with Engine 1, Ambulance 1 and Command 1. Crews first stabilized the vehicle and secured the scene before beginning mitigation work. 

Fire department staff assessed the driver, who said they were uninjured and refused additional medical care. The driver signed a form declining medical treatment. 

The flipped vehicle was spilling diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid. Firefighters worked to manage the leaks and constructed dams and dikes to hold back the fluids and minimize environmental damage. SENHMMAD, a regional hazardous-materials response team, was asked to deploy additional resources. A report was also filed with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services concerning the release. 

The crews kept working until the vehicle was securely restored to an upright position and the detected leaks were sealed. No injuries were reported, and the department's account did not report additional property damage.
