Early-Morning Fire Destroys Orleans Home

Orleans, Mass. — September 21 — Early Monday morning, firefighters from Orleans and multiple Cape Cod communities rushed to a structure fire at a single-family home on Morningside Circle. 

At approximately 3:36 a.m., the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received several 911 calls reporting a fire. Fire-rescue units from Orleans were sent out, accompanied by mutual aid automatically dispatched from Eastham, Harwich, and Brewster. Upon the arrival of the first crews, they discovered that the residence was about 75% engulfed in flames. Another vehicle in the driveway was also on fire. 

A working fire was declared, prompting the dispatch of additional resources from Harwich, Chatham, and Yarmouth. Hyannis and Wellfleet offered station coverage as crews worked at the scene.

Firefighters spent roughly 90 minutes getting the main fire under control. The house was being renovated when it suffered severe damage, resulting in total loss. At the time, the residence was empty, and no one was injured. 

Crews stayed at the scene until around 10 a.m. to finish the overhaul and ensure the area was secure. The Orleans Police, the Orleans Water Department, and the Orleans Building Department also provided assistance with the response. 

The Massachusetts State Police Fire Investigation Unit and the Orleans Fire Department are looking into the cause and origin of the fire. At the time of the release, officials stated the fire was not deemed suspicious. The incident demonstrated the role of automatic and requested mutual aid on Cape Cod, with neighboring departments providing additional personnel and resources while Orleans firefighters worked to contain the fire.
