South Windsor Crews Responded to I-291 MVC

South Windsor, CT — September 7 — The South Windsor Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on the westbound lanes of Interstate 291 during the afternoon of Sunday.At the same time, emergency crews were already en route to a separate medical incident in the same area.

The crash took place close to the path that runs between Route 5 and the Bissell Bridge.

Two individuals involved in the crash were checked at the scene and were found to have minor injuries.Both of them chose not to be taken to a hospital.

Fire Department units Car 19, Squad 2, Fire/Police 9, and Car 10 were responsible for handling both the motor vehicle crash and the separate medical response.

Firefighters coordinated with South Windsor Police and other emergency personnel to evaluate the individuals involved and manage the incident scene.

Interstate 291 functions as a major link between Interstate 91 and Route 5 in the South Windsor region.

The Bissell Bridge is a key crossing over the Connecticut River, connecting South Windsor to Windsor. Local traffic information guides drivers on I-91 to use I-291 to reach Route 5 and Ellington Road in South Windsor.

Motor vehicle crashes are a frequent part of the South Windsor Fire Department's emergency response activities.

According to the town’s annual report, a large number of calls received by the department involve rescue operations and motor vehicle incidents, alongside fire and alarm calls.

The department operates from South Windsor and offers fire and rescue services across the entire community.
