South Windsor Crews Responded to Connecticut River Jet Ski Crash

South Windsor, CT — September 6 — The South Windsor Fire Department responded shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday to the Connecticut River following a report of a Jet Ski crash near the Bissell Bridge Boat Launch in Windsor. Windsor Fire Department and several other agencies joined the response after a person was reported missing in the water.
South Windsor units responding included Car 10, Marine 1, Rescue 5 and Squad 2. Car 10 established a unified command with Windsor Fire, Windsor Police, South Windsor Police, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation Police, Windsor EMS, Suffield Police drone personnel and regional dive teams. Marine 1 operated with other vessels during the search, while additional South Windsor crews searched riverbanks and nearby trails.
The search continued for about four hours before being suspended around 11 p.m. Sunday. DEEP led the operation, with the Central Connecticut Dive Team, Connecticut State Police, Windsor Fire and Police, and other agencies assisting.
The search resumed Monday morning, when the missing man, identified by DEEP as 32-year-old Jose Nunez Quezada of New Haven, was recovered from the river. The incident remained under investigation, with the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner determining the cause and manner of death.
The South Windsor Fire Department, headquartered at 1175 Ellington Road, operates five engines, a heavy rescue, an aerial platform and a marine unit.
