Newington Firefighters Assisted at Berlin Working Fire

Newington, CT — September 3 — The Newington Volunteer Fire Department was called upon to help the Town of Berlin with a structure fire that was still actively burning as part of a Task Force 51 activation. Newington Engine 2 and Car 3 sent personnel and equipment to support during the incident.

Task Force 51 is a regional mutual-aid agreement that lets participating fire departments send trucks and firefighters to nearby areas when more help is needed.

Officials from the Berlin Fire Department have mentioned that this task force is often used during larger emergencies and helps keep coverage going while local teams are busy at the scene.

In the past, Newington firefighters have helped Berlin during structure fires, including times when Newington units supported town coverage while Berlin crews were working at the fire.

The Newington Volunteer Fire Department is based at 1485 Main Street and serves over 30,000 people across about 13 square miles.

The department has around 100 volunteer members and operates from four main stations, plus an extra station that supports its Cadet Division.

The response on September 3 highlighted how regional mutual aid plays a key role in providing extra resources during a working structure fire, while also ensuring emergency services continue to function smoothly in nearby communities.
