In the afternoon of 26th August 2025, at approximately 16:00 hours (4:00 p.m.), District 2 fire companies—including Franklin Township Fire Department (FPFD), Griggstown Fire Company (Station 35), and Little Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Company—were dispatched to a reported fire at a building near the intersection of Route 27 and Claremont Road. Upon arrival, Franklin Township Police and Somerset County Patrol Officers confirmed the fire and verified the address. Their initial priority shifted to ensuring that no occupants were inside the building.

FPFD units responding from Station 31 also confirmed the fire, visible from the firehouse. Based on this information, Chief 35 requested a first alarm while en route, prompting additional units to respond, including Kendall Park and Kingston Volunteer Fire Companies, Middlebush Volunteer Fire Department (Station 44), and a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) from Somerset Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company No. 1.

Squad 31 arrived and was assigned to deploy a 1 3/4” handline to the rear of the building, where an exterior fire had spread to the siding. While the squad worked to extinguish the remaining flames, Fire Prevention units inside the building reported no active fire in the attic or on the second floor, though smoke conditions were present. After a thorough overhaul, the fire was confirmed to be fully extinguished and contained to the exterior of the building.

The scene was subsequently turned over to Franklin Fire Prevention for investigation. All FPFD units returned to their quarters by 17:15 hours (5:15 p.m.).
