DAUGHERTY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (Wednesday, Sept. 3) — Firefighters pulled an unconscious person from a burning home Wednesday morning after flames broke out in a single-story brick ranch, officials said.
The New Brighton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at about 7:03 a.m. to assist Daugherty Township. Captain 8612 arrived first and reported smoke showing from all sides of the house, establishing command.
Engine 84’s crew entered the structure, locating an unconscious victim inside. Firefighters split their efforts, continuing the attack on the fire while removing the victim within one minute of discovery.
With no EMS unit yet on scene, CPR was started by a New Brighton firefighter and a New Brighton Area police officer. Medic Rescue Ambulance Service soon arrived and took over care.
Crews from Tower 84 and Engine 84 extinguished the fire and searched the home, with no additional victims found. Pulaski Fire Department and the New Sewickley Fire District provided water supply and overhaul support.
The victim was transported by air medical helicopter, with the Rochester Fire Department handling the landing zone.
