September 21 — Verona, N.J. — A kitten in distress was reported to the Verona Fire Department along the retaining wall close to the dam, prompting the department to respond to an unusual call for assistance at Verona Park on Sunday.
Unable to climb to safety, the kitten was discovered clinging to vegetation on the wall. Firefighters carefully approached the animal and brought it to safety using their equipment and training. Crews searched the shoreline thoroughly after the rescue to make sure no more kittens were in danger. The kitten is now safe and secure thanks to the quick action of the firefighters on scene.
