Conway firefighters battle recycling yard blaze, respond to crashes
CONWAY, Pa. (Tuesday, Sept. 2) — Conway Volunteer Fire Department faced a busy afternoon Tuesday, beginning with a large fire at Crows Run Recycling that spread to nearby brush.
Crews arrived to find several vehicles burning on the west side of the yard. Tankers and manpower from multiple departments were called to assist as a brush fire moved uphill into the flats. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines, used an earth mover to break apart burning piles, and applied a monitor to attack flames on the hillside. The fire took several hours to bring under control.
While Conway crews remained at the recycling yard, a working structure fire broke out in Center Township. Rehab 49 was released from the initial scene to assist departments at that fire.
Later in the day, Conway firefighters joined units from Stations 27 and 52 at a two-car crash on Route 65 across from Freedom Eagles. The vehicles sustained heavy damage, but there were no entrapments and only minor injuries. Crews directed traffic and cleared the roadway once the vehicles were removed.
