TARENTUM, Pa. (Tuesday, Sept. 16) — Firefighters battled a two-alarm house fire Tuesday evening in the 900 block of Porter Street, where two pets died, officials said.

Tarentum fire units, including companies 280, 281 and 282, were first alerted and arrived to find flames showing from a two-story wood-frame house. Police and the 280 chief confirmed a working fire from the rear of the home.

Truck 280 made entry for a primary search, which was negative, while Engine 281 stretched a line. The alarm was upgraded for manpower, bringing additional crews from Brackenridge, Lower Burrell, Harrison Township, East Deer Township, New Kensington, Rural Ridge and Freeport.

Engine 280 assisted truck crews with ventilation and opening up for attack lines.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
