PLUM, Pa. (Tuesday, Sept. 16) — Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department members conducted a school bus rescue drill Tuesday evening with support from the Plum Borough School District, officials said.
The district provided two active buses for the training, while Transportation Director Taye Coles and Transportation Manager Joe Giconi guided firefighters through bus operations and assisted with exercises.
Scenarios included emergency evacuation, patient removal using boards and a KED device, stabilizing buses with cribbing, handling special needs passengers with hydraulic lifts, identifying extrication points, incident command and mass-casualty awareness.
Chief Sims, who led the training, incorporated lessons from a school bus crash on Route 286 last year and other past incidents.
Officials said the exercise highlighted teamwork between firefighters, Plum police and Plum EMS during real-world emergencies.
