GETTYSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 4, 2025) — Firefighters used a rope system to rescue a man who fell about 10 feet into an underground vault Thursday morning at the Majestic Theater in downtown Gettysburg.
Gettysburg Fire Department responded at 9:28 a.m. to 25 Carlisle Street after reports of a fall victim below grade. Truck 1, Rescue 1, Traffic 1 and Adams Regional EMS arrived to find the patient injured inside the vault.
EMS crews, assisted by Gettysburg College safety and security personnel, treated the man before securing him in a Stokes basket. Firefighters used Truck 1 as a high point to lift the basket to street level.
Air medical transport was placed on standby but later canceled. The patient was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
